Jay Jacobson defended Kelsie Leavitt of Banfield Scottsdale 1864 in a complaint before the Investigative Committee. For the big day at the Board, he appears to have switched out with attorney T. Scott King, who went on to defend a second Banfield veterinarian in an unrelated complaint.
Apparently very overworked at her Banfield location, she was assigned a ovariohysterectomy, a "fit-in euthanasia" and a couple of dentals when the dog presented as generally not doing well. She found a previously unknown heart murmur and fluid in the lungs but sent the dog home with a recommendation for follow-up; the dog was later taken to 1st Pet in critical condition and almost died. Investigators found gross incompetence but the Board found it necessary only to send a letter of concern; no investigation appears to have been opened into the Banfield facility in question.
Leavitt's response to the complaint, most likely with either Jacobson's or King's input, is an informative window of what an average day at a Banfield looks like.
